What is National Health Insurance?

National Health Insurance (NHI) is a system managed by the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) to protect individuals and families from the high cost of medical care. By paying monthly premiums, you can reduce the financial burden caused by illness or injury and receive necessary medical services through insurance benefits when needed.

Registration Process

  • International students who have stayed in Korea for 6 months or longer are automatically enrolled in the National Health Insurance system.
  • After entering Korea and completing Alien Registration, a notification of health insurance enrollment will be mailed to your registered address.
  • A health insurance card will be issued and sent to you after enrollment is complete.

How to Pay Insurance Premiums

  • You can pay your insurance premiums through the NHIS website, at branch offices, or at designated banks.
  • It is also possible to set up automatic monthly payments from your bank account.
