Alien Registration Card
What is Alien Registration?
- All foreigners planning to stay in Korea for more than 90 days must apply for an Alien Registration Card (ARC) within 90 days of their arrival.
- The ARC is required for essential daily activities such as verifying your visa status, getting a part-time job, opening a bank account, or signing up for a mobile phone plan.
Who Needs to Apply?
- Foreigners with long-term visas such as D-2 (Student) or D-4 (Language Training)
- Anyone staying in Korea for more than 90 days after arrival
When to Apply
- Within 90 days of entering Korea
- A fine will be imposed if you fail to apply within the deadline.
Required Documents (for initial application)
- ARC application form
- Original passport and a copy
- Copy of your visa
- One photo (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm, taken within the last 6 months, white background)
- Certificate of enrollment
- Proof of residence (e.g., dormitory confirmation, lease agreement)
- Application fee: 30,000 KRW
When to Reapply for a New ARC
You must apply for reissuance immediately if:
- Your ARC is lost or damaged
- There are any changes to your personal information (e.g., address, name)

Important Notes
- Failure to apply within the deadline may result in a fine of up to 1,000,000 KRW.
- If your ARC is lost, report it to the nearest police station immediately and then apply for a reissuance.
- Always carry your ARC with you.
